Medicine Tools
Medicine tools are a gift. The Universe gives us the items with which to make the tools, what we do with them is our gift to the Universe. Medicine tools are tangible items which help us to journey, to grow and to learn and to know ourselves. They help us to hear the voice of the Universe when it speaks to us. Like all medicine objects, the tools we use are powerful conduits of energy. The more we understand the medicine tool, its energy and its uses, the more powerful our work with these tools will be. "But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowl of the air, and they shall teach thee. Or speak to the Earth, and it shall teach thee; and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee." Job 12:7,8

Medicine Shields
Medicine shields are for their owners reimder of his or her connection to All That Is. Shields offer a source of comfort, protection, peace, and a statement of the owner's medicine, or energy. Shields are signposts, guiding our growth, and it is our task in this earthwalk to balance their lessons in our lives. Medicine shields remind us that all things are in all things, each with their own sense of timing, and that we are all inseparably united. Medicine shields are the healing gifts we give to ourselves, allowing intuition to guide the heart and bring the spirit into harmony with All That Is.

Rattles & Drums
Traditionally rattles and drums were used to heighten the state of consciousness and allow for easy movement through the Spirit World. The rattle is designed to heighten awareness. Turtle shell rattles are made by inserting a handle through the shell, sealing the openings, and filling with seeds or other items to make it rattle. The composition of the hadle, the materials used for making the rattle, and the decoration of the rattle will vary according to what medicine is required from the rattle. Deer toe rattles have a softer sound than Turtle or Gourd rattles and were traditionally used during funeral ceremonies although now their usage is more widespread. The oldest known relics of North American rattles found are made of clay, the body of Mother Earth.
Medicine Pouches & Bundles
Medicine pouches and medicine bundles are very personal and private. Sometimes the medicine person making them receives a vision concerning particular items to be used. Collected over time, these items become that person's medicine bundle. Medicine bundles are more than a collection of items. They are a collection of experiences. They represent encounters with the Spirit World revealed through items in the medicine bundle. The final destination is always the same: healing and transformation. "Split a piece of wood, and you will find me; turn a stone, and I am there..."

Dreamcatchers & Mandalas
Dreamcatchers are an authentic Native American tradition. They originated in the Ojibway [Chippewa] tribe, but their history and usage has spread. Even the Lakota have a story of how Iktomi the Spider wove the first dreamcatcher for a medicine elder to take to the people. Sinew was tied in the shape of a web around a round or oval frame, and the dreamcatchers were hung as a charm over children's beds to ward off nightmares. The belief is that good dreams pass through the webbing, while bad dreams get caught in it, and are dissolved with the light of the morning. The dreamcatcher has evolved into an artwork all its own over the last 50 yers, with many different shapes being made and many different decorations being added. It is said the dreamcatcher holds the destiny of the future. |
